Shree Meladi Maa TB Hospital, Kheda, Gujarat, India
The Foundations Work
Every year, in India alone, there are 1.8 million new cases of TB and 460,000 deaths.
We are therefore setting up a free dedicated TB hospital service in one of the worst hit areas of India. This area is in the state of Gujarat, with a population of 50 million people. It was recently devastated by a large earthquake, which destroyed many essential medical centers.
We have identified 40 villages with poverty stricken families, who currently have little or no access to the medical care they need.

Healing "Mind, Body, and Spirit"
We have purchased a 2-acre site, in an ideal location, with buildings, which we can develop and expand.
Our plan is for a hospital complex with a fresh environment, and tranquil gardens, to aid the recovery of patients, in this otherwise dry and dusty region.
We will organize regular health education classes for patients and families, both in the hospital, and out in the villages.
We will also take our teams to the more remote villages to treat people, and to transport those who need hospital care.
The World Health Organization has a programme for TB control in developing countries, which we will follow. This 'Direct Observation of Treatment' strategy (DOTS) is highly successful as patients are constantly monitored.
